Join us for the 2nd annual  Hafez Day celebration in San Diego as we use verse as an avenue for love, peacemaking, and reconciliation. This year Hafez invites the great Rumi to Hafez Day for a delightful evening featuring wondrous Persian mystic poetry, guest poets, and live music. Co-sponsored with the Persian Cultural Center.

Registration encouraged. Please scroll down.

National Hafez Day is celebrated every year in Iran and in 61 other countries across the globe, honoring the 14th century poet and the Persian mystical tradition.  Hafez is the only writer in the world to have his own holiday, reflecting the unparalleled legacy of his verse.

For centuries, Iran has produced some of the world’s most influential and inspiring poets including Saadi, Ferdowsi, Omar Khayyam, and Rumi currently the best-selling and most popular poet in the US.  Their works have revolutionized and influenced the literature of both the East and the West. Spanning themes of love, divine mysticism and human rights, their poetry is an incredible contribution to world culture, and remains entirely relevant today.

Featured poets, musicians and scholars:

Sharon Elise, Poet and Professor of Sociology, CSU San Marcos

Ahmad Rahimi Hakkhak, Professor Emeritus of Persian Language and Literature, University of Maryland

Namaad Ensemble of Persian Classical Music
