"Death is something we will all one day face. So why is it so hard for doctors to talk with their patients about dying? How can the medical profession better help people navigate the final chapters of their lives with confidence, direction and purpose?

Renowned surgeon and writer Atul Gawande explored those questions in his best-selling book, Being Mortal. In this film, Gawande teams with FRONTLINE (PBS) on a documentary that brings his personal journey — and the stories of his patients and their families — to life and challenges us all to reexamine how we think about death and dying."

A pre-discussion film screening of "Being Mortal" will take place at the La Jolla/Riford Library on Wednesday, January 31st at 5:30pm. After the film screening, at 6:30pm, a discussion of the book will be followed by the announcement of the next book in this community reading series.

The La Jolla Library and Warwick’s introduced La Jolla Reads as our local version of “One Book, One San Diego,” where a different title will be chosen every four months for everyone in the community to enjoy and discuss.
