Program Description

Event Details

Commemorate Banned Books Week and join San Diego Public Library staff, community readers, volunteers, teen readers, and celebrity guests for the library’s annual Read-Aloud Read-a-thon.  A new book and a new reader every 15-30 minutes.

All are also invited to a Banned Books Live 2018 entertaining evening of stage readings from censored books by actors from Write Out Loud and Logan Squared Productions, starting at 6:30pm. And while you're here check out the historical banned books display on the 9th floor.

Banned Books Week’s objective is to help awareness regarding the censorship of books in the US. More than 11,300 books have been challenged since 1982. There were 354 challenges reported in 2017.  See the most frequently challenged books and the 10 most challenged books of 2017.

This event is a part of our programming for this year's One Book, One San Diego where we will explore themes of civil rights, social justice, and discrimination. The 2018 One Book selection is March: Book One by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell.
