Event Details

During the pandemic, Asian American Pacific Islander communities experienced racism and scapegoating. The purpose of AAPI Joy is to come together and celebrate the beauty of AAPI cultures through stories and performance art.

EVENT SCHEDULE

12:00-12:30 p.m. Bilingual Filipino Storytime by Dr. Joy Francisco, Ph.D.

Author and creator of Little Jeepney Books will read in Filipino and English and lead a fun activity.

 

1:00-1:45 p.m. K-pop Dance Workshop by KOTX

UCSD student group KOTX will lead a dance workshop from K-pop (Korean Pop) song Candy by NCT.

 

2:00-2:20 p.m. Performance by Chinese Dance Association at UCSD

The Chinese Dance Association @ UC San Diego will performance traditional folk dance, an umbrella dance, a fan dance, and more.

 

2:30-2:50 p.m. Performance by Onkur Bangla Language Academy

The nonprofit Bangla language school will sing in Bangla and perform beautiful dances.

 

3:00-3:25 p.m. Performance by Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts & Education Center

Samahan will perform Filipino folk dances representing multiple ethnic groups across the archipelago.
