Does your cat behave like a pampered celebrity actor or a character actor who's always ready to please a crowd?  Does your well-fed cat deserve an Oscar for convincing your friends you're starving them of love and treats?

Forget those stuffy old Academy Awards and get ready for the aCATemy Awards! Begin your evening by enjoying a lovely information panel chaired by feline scientists, activists, and breeders. Then stick around to watch San Diego's finest cat videos and see which ones are deserving of some aCATemy love.

Key Dates:

  • April 1st - Submission form opens.
  • April 20th - Submission form closes. (We will close once we hit 75 submissions, so don't wait!)
  • May 8th @ 5:00pm-6:30pm: Cat Information Panel and Symposium. Visit our community cat partner's tables and learn from our panel speakers.
  • May 8th @ 6:30pm-8:00pm: aCATemy Awards presented by the San Diego Public Library and various Community Partners.

Community Cat Partners:

The aCATemy Awards are co-presented with the organizations below. They know cats and they're excited to share their love and knowledge with you!


Rules for Entry:

1. One entry per household. 

2. Videos must be fewer than 20 seconds long. If the file size is too large, then please follow the submission form's instructions for using WeTransfer.

3. In addition to the video, you must also submit a picture of your cat with a sign reading some version of "SDPL Acatemy Awards". This will be on the same form as the video submission. 

4. Participants must live within San Diego County. 

5. Participants who are 17 years old or younger must obtain parental permission. They should use their parent's emails when submitting videos.


How to Enter: 

1. Fill out the form here. If your file is too large, then please follow the form submissions for WeTransfer. You must still finish the primary registration form even if you submit through WeTransfer.

2. Those whose videos are nominated for potential awards will be notified ahead of time via email. Please be sure to attend to see if your cat video has won an award!

3. If you need to update or rescind a submission for any reason, please email us at Pbronstein@sandiego.gov.

Parking:

Parking is available on-site in the library's Parking Garage. Parking is free for 2 hours with validation. Validation is available in the first floor lobby.
