Program Description

Event Details

The Asante people of Ghana are apart of the Akan ethnic group and they are well known for their rich history and culture, which includes the founding of the Ashanti Empire. The Asante people use adinkra, which are visual symbols originally reserved for Asante kings, to signify concepts and proverbs. The symbols appear on various objects such as ornamental cloth often worn at funerals, wooden objects, and jewelry. During this activity, we will use paper, cardboard, paint, and scissors to create stamps. In honor of Black History Month, come learn about adinkra stamps and the Asante people.
