Program Description

San Diego Public Library’s Downtown Chess program proudly presents international grandmaster Tatev Abrahamyan for a festive afternoon of chess history and exhibition.  Ms. Abrahamyan will participate in exhibition matches with local players and answer questions about her career in chess. Chess historian Peter Hodges will give a brief presentation on Armenian chess champions and Armenia as the only country with chess in the school curriculum.  Matches will be projected live on a movie screen to enhance audience participation. 

Co-sponsored with the San Diego Chess Club and Herges Capital Management.  Presented in conjunction with the 2017 One Book One San Diego featuring The Sandcastle Girls by NYT bestselling author Chris Bohjalian. Registration encouraged.
