Painting Winter, from Bruegel to Monet

Join us this holiday season to look closely at scenes of winter from art history. We'll discuss paintings associated with the Little Ice Age--with a focus on the Dutch artist Hendrick Avercamp (1585-1634), a specialist in painting activities on ice. We'll also walk through Pieter Bruegel's series showing months of the year, particularly his celebrated 'Hunters in the Snow', in praise of the winter season.

About Weili Jin

Weili Jin has been passionate about the history of art ever since first seeing Botticelli in the second grade. Ten years later, he continues to specialize in the paintings of Renaissance Florence, particularly the patronage of the Medici. Most recently, he has worked to develop the YouTube channel “Narrative Art History,” a lecture series that contextualizes Renaissance art in a continuous, chronological narrative.
