Did you know that 3 artists featured on the 9th floor Fine Arts Gallery show SD Art Prize 2022 also had work acquired into the Civic Art Collection via the SD Practice initiative? No! Did you know that the City of San Diego has an art collection? No!! Then join us for an in-depth tour of the Civic Art Collection on view at the Central Library.

We are hosting an in-depth 2-hour tour of the City’s important Civic Art Collection at the Central Library with Chuck Miller, Senior Public Art Manager and Dr. Lara Bullock, Civic Art Manager with the Commission for Arts & Culture. The City has continued to acquire artworks of historical importance and artistic significance most recently with the SD Practice initiative that supported local artists during the COVID-19 pandemic by acquiring 100 new works by 89 local artists.

Focused on artworks that demonstrate creativity and innovation the City’s collecting mission focuses on works that stimulate discussion and exchange of ideas, balance urbanization and development and honor the history and heritage of San Diego.

FREE 2 hr. parking is available with validation at the library.

Please meet on the 1st floor courtyard. Library staff will be in the courtyard gathering participants. During this walking tour, we will be visiting both 2, 3, 4, 5, 8th floors and ending in the 9th floor Fine Arts Gallery.
