Asian Story Theater Presents THE GREEN SNAKE

Program Description

Event Details

In a small village, it is a challenging time for most people. They were often cold and usually hungry. There was no rain, except when there was too much. As you might expect, most of the people weren’t too happy about things.  But the ones in charge blamed the problems on a powerful and dangerous snake spirit up in the mountains who was causing the trouble. They called her THE GREEN SNAKE—and everyone was afraid of her.  About the only happy thing around was a new arrival in the town, a young woman who brings funny stories and a little music, with a knack for making everyone’s day a little brighter.  The problem was, a lot of the people in charge liked things just the way they were, and didn't trust the little visitor.  They made it harder and harder for the girl to do the things she liked to share, until finally they decided to get rid of her once and for all. They convince the girl to help capture the Green Snake—but it is really a trap to capture the girl AND the Green Snake together! The girl sees through the plan, and so must decide whether to help the villagers, or escape to safety.

Based on a favorite character from a famous folk tale, THE GREEN SNAKE celebrates traditional qualities associated with Lunar New Year celebrations for Year of the Snake. This production is presented by Asian Story Theater with additional support of the San Diego Chinese Women’s Association.
