In his book WELCOME THE WRETCHED: In Defense of the “Criminal Alien” law professor and immigration lawyer César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández makes a powerful case for divorcing immigration law from criminal law—including abolishing so-called immigration crimes (such as crossing and re-crossing the border “illegally”), and allowing migrants who have been accused or convicted of crimes to remain in the U.S. as residents or citizens.
About the author: César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández is the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and an immigration lawyer. He has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, NPR, The Guardian, and many other venues.
