Program Description

Event Details

Join author Curtis Howard for a book talk and discussion of his book Cellmates & Cellouts about his life and experiences in prison. Howard explains what it is like to be in prison. It is not what you see on TV, he writes, “for one thing, there is no smoking allowed in California prisons and as far as weight lifting, the California Department of Corrections banned weights over 20 years ago.”

Registration encouraged. Please scroll down.

At close to 3 million incarcerated people and 22% of the world's prisoners, the U.S. has the largest prison population and the highest per-capita rate of incarceration.  In this new edition of Cellmates & Cellouts, Howard clears up various myths about prison life cropped up by Hollywood and the media, and fueled by unfounded rumor.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

Curtis Howard is a writer, blogger and motivational speaker.  He has published several feature and cover stories in San Diego Reader.
