Libraries share stuff: books, programs, spaces, tech, and so on. Libraries also do outreach that connects communities to each other. In his book The Collection All Around, author Jeff Davis, manager of SDPL’s Linda Vista Branch Library, explores something different: libraries improving access to the non-library stuff around us: local cultural venues, neighborhood public spaces, community goings-on, nature, and more. Librarians, often enabled by new technologies, are acting as agents and brokers on behalf of the public to the riches of our cities and towns. Davis will discuss how these projects build community, enhance the role of library membership, and why they are a strategic fit for libraries. Registration encouraged.
