Program Description

Event Details

Every other week, library staff publish book reviews in the San Diego Union-Tribune sometimes followed by a video review on social media the following week.  No Behind the Desk video this week. Instead view a talk the author gave at Cornell University's Into and Out of the Echo Chambers discussion series on spirituality.

Librarian Melissa Giffen reviews See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love by Valarie Kaur, a timely memoir about an American Sikh from California’s Central Valley who discovers and uses her own voice to fight against injustice and hatred following the 9/11 tragedy.

Behind the Desk is our latest video series and delves deeper into the Recommended Reads published every other Sunday in the Union-Tribune. Check the Sunday Paper to see the latest review from SDPL staff or view our archives on the library website: https://sandiego.gov/sdplreviews.

Want other suggestions for great reads? Melissa has a playlist for you:

Where Do We Go from Here?: Chaos or Community by Martin Luther King, Jr.

A Call for Revolution: A Vision for the Future by the 14th Dalai Lama

Rising Strong: The Reckoning, the Rumble, the Revolution by Brené Brown
