Event Details

In celebration of Juneteenth, UCSD Professor King Britt presents a special lecture, illuminating the innovators of color in electronic music. Professor Britt will let the audience choose from one of five different pathways leading to the birth of specific genres including Funk, Philly Disco, Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Birmingham’s Sun Ra and more. Within the music and visuals, lies the socio-political contexts in which all of these innovations are a response to.

Registration encouraged! Please scroll down!

A must for all ages and ethnicities who want to learn about the true Black history of these movements. This is in partnership with Future is Color, important community builders, based in the Barrio Logan. We will hear a few words from founder Erwin Hines.

This is part of Professor Britt’s Blacktronika : Afrofuturism in Electronic Music course at @ucsdmusic.
