Program Description

Event Details

For the final program in our Books for Good Trouble series, we're taking a closer look at the importance of representation and identity. San Diego has a rich bi-cultural history and San Diego Public Library is excited to bring in local authors Maria E. Garcia and Beatrice Zamora to discuss the City's rich local history and culture.

Beatrice Zamora is a former educator, Tolteca Press founder and the author of "The Spirit of Chicano Park/El Espíritu del Parque Chicano" and "Am I Blue or Am I Green? / Azul o verde. ¿Cual soy yo?" Maria E. Garcia, a retired educator and activist-turned-historian penned the acclaimed series, The History of Neighborhood House (San Diego Free Press) and the recently published, "We Made San Diego."

Their works focus on local history, the importance of taking action and recognizing and appreciating the latina/o/x culture deeply embedded in the San Diego region and beyond.

Attendees will receive a copy of the following books We Made San Diego, The Spirit of Chicano Park or Azul o verde. ¿Cuál soy yo? while supplies last, as part of our Books for Good Trouble: Social Justice Dialogs programming series. These dialogs encourage discussion of local community concerns and connects books, creators and encourages positive changes in our neighborhoods.
