Description of Event
Using selected scenes from acclaimed feature films, we will focus on "good character". The main characters to be examined are EXEMPLARS of good character and/or characters who TRANSFORM into better persons. We will concentrate our attention on universal human motivations, aspirational hopes, and (especially) transformational spirituality. What are our wants? What do we want most of all? How to get it, and live it? We will invite group discussion after a short presentation incorporating the selected scenes.
For 6-18-24, the movie is MRS. DOUBTFIRE, starring Robin Williams, with a focus on "disgust, rejection, shame, and identity". It's a popular movie, but a copy might be available for borrowing through San Diego Public Library; it can be rented for streaming through Amazon, Apple, and Fandango.
Attendees are encouraged to view (often a re-visit) on their own the full-length film selected for that month prior to our meeting together, but this is not essential.
The facilitators are a psychologist (Paul Kelly, PhD) and an artist (Cliff McReynolds) with passionate interest in "lives lived well".
