About the workshop:

Learning Chinese brush painting is a fun and exciting way to learn about Chinese art culture. It is a timeless art skill that is very different from Western art styles. Students in this Chinese brush painting workshop will be trained to use Chinese brushes, ink and Chinese gouache on rice paper. At the beginning of the workshop, Lulu will do a simple demo about how to properly hold Chinese brushes, how to use ink and Chinese gouache on rice paper, and then the students will follow Lulu to practice bamboo and pandas. When students are ready, they can draw their own bamboo and pandas with some references provided.

Registration is required and limited to ages 12 and older

Lulu Yueming Qu is a San Diego-based professional artist and art teacher who immigrated from China 8 years ago. She has over 20 years of Chinese painting skills and over 3 years of teaching experience. She received her Master's Degree in traditional Chinese painting from The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (中央美术学院). She has another Master's Degree in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. As an English and Mandarin Speaker, she would love to share her art skills with people who are interested in art.

ArtReach is a non-profit arts education organization filling the need for thousands of students in San Diego County schools who have no access to visual arts education programs. ArtReach exists to help fill this gap by crafting lasting and meaningful creative experiences for young artists that would not otherwise have the resources. Art and creative practice play a crucial role in human development and are an essential part of education for all. Lessons aligned to Social-Emotional Learning empower students to prioritize a growth mindset, find their unique voice, and develop resilience through art.
