Event Details
Free to participate! Every participant will be able to go home with a take-home, programmable LED lantern!
In this workshop, participants will learn about Papel Picado through programming a basic LED lantern using the Adafruit microcontroller. Open to ages 10+, all coding skill levels from beginner to advanced, and to all members of the community who are interested in learning about Papel Picado.
We’ll begin the workshop by teaching participants about the history of Papel Picado. Given the 2 hour workshop duration, the LED circuit, Adafruit microcontroller, and lantern will be pre-wired and assembled so that students can focus on learning how to code a variety of light sequences. All materials will be available to take home for participants to customize, decorate, and share with friends and family!
The program is led by professional software engineers and involves learning how to use a Raspberry pi to light up a lantern.
The participant limit is 10 kids max, but 2 kids per family (20 max) is OK
*Best for ages 10+, but anyone under age 13 should have a parent - in general, having parents in the room is recommended so that the parents can understand how to best support the kid following the program
