NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

On Tuesday, March 8, we will convene in the North University Community Branch Library at six o’clock. Although the official address is 8820 Judicial Drive, remember to turn West on Research Place and follow the tree lined access road to the library.

If you haven’t paid your dues for 2022, it’s not too late to remain a member in good standing for the rest of the year. Your membership card is available in exchange for your $6 dues payment.

Our March theme is MY FAVORITE FOREIGN COIN.  Whether you actively collect foreign coins, or only have a few pieces picked up abroad while on vacation, virtually everyone has a special foreign coin. Please look through your foreign pieces and bring your favorite foreign coin for Show & Tell.

This will be the fourth meeting at our new venue. At the February meeting we voted to make the move to the library permanent. Thus, our quarter century run at the Tecolote Recreation Center is now officially history as we we enter our 70th year since the founding of the club. Members are reminded that the club was officially formed in the Spring of 1953. A quick shout out to our singular Charter Member Member, Vince Bacon, who was there at the beginning, served as the club’s first Treasurer, and remained on the board for many years thereafter as our Commissioner when the club was affiliated with the Convair Recreation Association. Some members may recall that until a few years ago, Vince held the singular distinction of having attended every Coinarama since its inception in 1958.

After two years of Covid induced cancellations, it appears that, at least for this year, our numismatic community will once more convene for the Council’s Coinarama on the weekend of July 9 – 10.  I think we’re all looking forward to it after such a long hiatus.

Treats and hot coffee will be provided. We give thanks to Debbi for providing us with delicious home baked confections, and to Andrew Carmen for supplying that fully caffeinated coffee that helps keep us awake for our drives home. Let’s all be safe!

Since the library closes at 8 o’clock, we need to conclude our business and adjourn by 7:45. We hope to see everyone for our meeting this next week, Tuesday March 8th.
