April theme: LOWEST GRADE COLLECTIBLE COIN.  The typical coin that would fall into this category would be any key date of a series grading VG or lower.  Thus, we’re looking for your coins which at first glance look very well worn or even classed as cull—but which are nevertheless worth considering as collectible, and not as pieces of junk. Ideas along these lines would be any Chain Cent or Draped Bust silver dollar in Fair condition, or a modern key such as a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter in AG-3. A key date silver dollar, such as an 1893-S in Fair grade is another suitable example. They may not be pretty, but these well worn treasures that have been around the block deserve love too! Anybody have a coin graded P-1?

Last month we received the sad news that our Charter Member, Vince Bacon, who had been one our club’s founders and served as the first Club Treasurer, passed away on January 14, just months shy of his 100th birthday.  Vince had been a member for nearly 69 years, and unlike many collectors that join numerous clubs, he once remarked to me that Coineers was the only coin club to which he belonged. Vince also held Life Membership Number 323 with the American Numismatic Association. Vince is survived by Nancy, his wife of 76 years, and their progeny. It so happens I mentioned last month that Vince held the singular distinction of being the only person to have attended the first 60 COINARAMAS since the first show in 1958. Vince was also credited with designing the club’s interlocking ‘C’ logo and 20th Anniversary Silver Medal in 1973 which was struck for by the once famous and now defunct Franklin Mint.  A link to Vince’s obituary follows at the end of the newsletter. A page is also attached from Chuck Luce's book on locally produced club medallions that recognized Vince as the designer of our club's 20th Anniversary silver medal.

If you have yet to attend a meeting at the library, consider dropping by and checking out our new digs.  Just remember to turn West onto Research Place and follow the frontage road until you see the library on your right.  Once you enter the library, turn to the right, and we meet behind the closed double doors adjacent to the conveniently located restrooms.

Since the library closes at 8 o’clock, we need to conclude our business and adjourn by 7:45. We hope to see everyone for our meeting this next week, Tuesday April 12th.
