Community Invitation: Participate in a Collaborative Art Project

In collaboration with the Visual Arts Program and the current exhibition M(other) Tongue at the Central Library’s Judith Harris Art Gallery (9th Floor), we are proud to present local artist Michelle Montjoy’s community project, Evidence.

Evidence is a collaborative embroidery project that invites participants to reflect on—and count—what is important to them. Gathered around a large piece of layered white silk and linen, community members are encouraged to pick up needle and thread and embroider hash marks in shades of blue. Each mark may represent time, age, quantity, statistics, or any number of personal significance.

As the project travels from place to place, the textile grows with each stitch—becoming a shared record and embodiment of our collective cares, stories, and concerns.

Drop by anytime during the scheduled event to participate, observe, or simply connect through the act of making.

Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary. We meet on the patio of the Judith Harris Art Gallery (9th floor).
