Program Description

Event Details

Welcome to the Core Biology Concept Workshop! This is aimed for upper-elementary and middle school students interested in gaining a headstart to high school biology and those passionate about exploring critical biology topics through lab activities modeling biological processes and simulated lab procedures. For ages 10-13.

Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Selection: In this lesson, we will cover the fundamental concepts of biology. Specifically, we will dive into the mechanisms by which organisms interact with their surrounding environments. We will also consider how organisms better adapted to their environments tend to survive and reproduce more successfully passing on beneficial traits. We will do this by incorporating a hands-on lab activity to demonstrate the mechanics of these processes in action.

About the Presenters:

The Core Biology Concept team is composed of passionate high school students from a variety of STEM clubs at Canyon Crest Academy. Our mission is to introduce middle school students to biology with the help of lab-based activities in natural selection, genetics, and more. Ultimately, we intend on generating curiosity and developing an enjoyment of learning that can be applied to any future profession.
