Del Mar Mesa Garden Club Monthly Meeting - SD's Native Plants & Wildlife
Planting natives can help our entire ecosystem. This meeting's speaker is Kelcy Coleman.
My name is Kelcy Coleman, I was born and raised in northern Colorado and moved to San Diego a little over two years ago with my partner and two dogs because the ocean was calling. I started volunteering for San Diego Audubon Society last December and had no idea how much I loved birds, other pollinators and their habitats. I immediately fell in love with everything SDAS does and jumped right in, doing everything and anything I could. I am a Conservation Assistant as well as the Coordinator for the Native Seed Library Program so I am able to do a little bit of everything. I mostly work in the field with the conservation team restoring native habitats and attending outreach events to educate the public of the importance of being good stewards of the land we live on but I also have the opportunity to provide San Diego residents with native seeds and knowledge of how to grow bird friendly plants in their backyards! I have a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University but pivoted my career to align with my true passion for nature. In my spare time I like to read, go tide pooling, go camping, try new foods, swim in the ocean and of course go birding. I am still learning about this area and would like to respectfully acknowledge that we live, work and play on unceded, ancestral, traditional and contemporary lands of the Kumeyaay People, who are stewards of this land, past, present and future.
