Program Description

Event Details

Registration is encouraged, but not required.

We invite community members to learn about historic oppression and systemic racism and share their lived experiences for personal and community empowerment.

Beatrice Zamora is a local leader in La Danza Azteca-Chichimeca and is considered a Capitana-Generala in this cultural movement. She is a San Diego County resident and has been studying and teaching the tradition for 45 years, and is widely respected throughout the U.S.  This class will include how this oral tradition has impacted Chicano Indigenous identity in the U.S since 1974 in the U.S, and in San Diego, and the importance of inter-cultural exchange with Mexico. It will also include an opportunity to learn a basic dance with the rhythms of pre-Columbian drumbeats. Friends of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
