Program Description

Event Details

Join us to hear from local Japanese Americans share their experiences and views on Executive Order 9066. In February 1942, two months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, EO 9066 ordered the removal of ethnic Japanese living on the US west coast. Two thirds of them were American citizens.  Learn how two of these children, interned with their families, recall evacuation and camp life. Juxtapose their memories with the next generation’s views. They grew up with parents fresh from this experience, trying to pick up the pieces of a shattered life, while trying to remain upstanding American citizens.

Co-sponsored in conjunction with the 2017 One Book One San Diego reading campaign with the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego and Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ of San Diego.  Registration encouraged.
