Program Description

Event Details

Do you know what’s living among the shores of La Jolla? In this exciting, hands-on program for children and adults of all ages, we explore the vast ecosystems and animals that call the La Jolla Shores home! Special focus will be given to our local pinniped species: California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals.

We will discuss best practices for viewing/interacting, their natural history, behaviors, their conservation, and ways you and your families can become a community scientist to support the Seal Society of San Diego in protecting species for years to come!

For the hands-on portion there are four different activities including an ocean clean-up, call to action poster making, and food chain game, as well as biofacts that participants can interact with such as a real harbor seal pelt they can feel and touch. At the end of the program, participants will have become an official Pinniped Protector where they will each earn a certificate they can take home. The program is open to all, but it is geared towards ages 7 and up.
