Author of the Month program is proud to present award-winning author, Sally J. Pla as she discusses and signs her book, The Fire, the Water, and Maudie McGinn.  Award-winning author Sally J. Pla writes contemporary books for young people, including The Someday Birds, Stanley Will Probably Be Fine, and Benji, The Bad Day, And Me. She’s also a neurodiversity/autism advocate and the brains behind A Novel Mind, a web resource on neurodiversity and mental health representation in children's lit. She has English degrees from Colgate and Penn State and has worked as a business journalist and in public education.

Neurodivergent Maudie is ready to spend an amazing summer with her dad, but will she find the courage to tell him a terrible secret about life with her mom and new stepdad? Maudie always looks forward to the summers she spends in California with her dad. But this year, she must keep a troubling secret about her home life - one that her mom warned her never to tell. Maudie wants to confide in her dad about her stepdad's anger, but she's scared.
