Event Details

In 1942, young math teacher Meg Burke left the haven of her parents’ working-class Brooklyn neighborhood to join the U.S. Navy. As a codebreaker working on a top-secret project, she faces skepticism while navigating a male-dominated world. Her determination and resilience drive her to excel in her assignment, becoming an effective officer who discovers that not all victories occur on the high seas. Some wars are won in small rooms behind closed doors.

R. Ann grew up in a house with a dozen bookcases and weekly library excursions, but it was decades before she wrote her first book. After earning her Ph.D. in Public Health, Bush led clinical grants to improve patient safety. Not until the COVID-19 pandemic did she find time to write a historical fiction novel inspired by her great aunt’s fantastic journey from junior Brooklyn math teacher to a Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) officer.
