Young Women in Bio and Biopolis students will lead a workshop for middle school-age girls on the work of Helen Ranney, the La Jolla physician that pioneered studies showing sickle cell was an inherited disease. Participants of this hands-on workshop will come away with knowledge of Inheritance, Alleles, Dominant and Recessive Traits, Heterozygous, Homozygous, Pedigrees, Sickle Cell Disease, Electrophoresis, and Restriction Digests.

Learn about the story of Dr. Ranney and the analysis she was doing on one particular family to show that this disease was inherited/recessive.
