This program is part of the Central Library's Opera Insights Series, in partnership with the San Diego Opera.

Join Nicolas Reveles and his guest, Professor Joseph T. Thomas, Jr. (Director of the National Center for the Study of Children's Literature, SDSU), in a lively discussion of the roots of the tale of Hansel and Gretel, the Grimm Brothers’ version and the story as it appears in the Humperdinck opera. As always, these two scholars will have much to say about the dark edges of meaning hidden in this familiar story and will give the audience plenty to think about! Singers from San Diego Opera's Young Artist's Training Program will join us to sing excerpts from the Hansel & Gretel Opera.
