Program Description

Event Details

Celebrate Hanbok Day at San Diego Central Library! This South Korean holiday began in 1996 and is celebrated in California on October 21. Originally created to inspire people to wear hanbok, the country's traditional attire, the Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles is bringing these garments to Central Library. Attendees are encouraged to attire themselves in this beautiful garb and take some fun photos, too!

Everyone is invited to attend this family-friendly program. Activities include:

  • Professional Calligraphy [courtyard]
  • Hanbok [Photo-Op]
  • The Scent of Ink performance screening [auditorium]
  • Traditional Korean Games [courtyard]

The Scent of Ink (묵향 Mukhyang) is a celebrated dance production from the National Theater of Korea, originally staged in 2013. Inspired by the late artist Hyeon Choi's "Gunja Dance," "Mukhyang" was choreographed by the former artistic director of the National Dance Company, Seong-Joo Yoon and both directed and designed by Kooho Jung.

In the courtyard, attendees can have their names written in the style of Korean calligraphy, try on hanbok and enjoy some fun activities during the screening.
