The San Diego Public Library, in partnership with California Coast Credit Union, will host its 4th How-To Festival on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m! The How-To Festival is an interactive community educational event with something for everyone and for all ages. Twenty participating library locations include: Allied Gardens/Benjamin, Balboa, Central, Clairemont, Logan, Mira Mesa, Mission Hills, Mountain View/Beckwourth, North Clairemont, North University Community, Oak Park, Ocean Beach, Otay Mesa, Pacific Beach, Point Loma, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Miramar Ranch, Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa, and Skyline Hills.

 

As a celebration of experiential and peer-to-peer learning, the How-To Festival presenters are community experts from all walks of life.

 

Here is the schedule for our Branch:

11:00 am | How To Meditate

Presenter: Indu Peruri| Learn the basics of meditation and practice this stress relieving activity with the help of a long-time practitioner. Young Adult through Older Adults. (45 mins)

11:00 am | How To Write a Novel in 20 Steps

Presenter: Adam Van Susteren| Do you have an idea for a novel but aren’t sure where to start? Learn how to get your book down on paper by a local published author. Adults. (45 mins)

12:00 pm | How To Use Essential Oils

Presenter: Marianne Lindsay| Learn safe and effective ways to incorporate the benefits of essential oils in your life. Young Adult through Older Adults. (45 mins)

1:00 pm | How To Understand the Medicare Handbook

Presenter: Torrey Anderson-Henning |Take the confusion out of The Medicare and You Handbook and get reliable information about how to sign up for your benefits. Older Adults. (45 mins)

1:00 pm | How To Stay Safe Around Water

Presenter: David Fullen |Children and their caregivers will learn how and when to use a life jacket as well as tips for water safety. All ages; children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult. (20 minutes)

2:00 pm | How To Do Chair Yoga

Presenter: Anne Joseph| Participants will learn how to do easy leg, arm and torso yoga stretches that will increase feelings of well-being and improve health. Young Adult through Older Adults. (45 mins)

2:00 pm | How To Make an Ordinary Cookie Extraordinary

Presenter: Kathryn Johnson | Learn how to take a store-bought cookie and turn it into a delicious creation. All ages. Parent assistance is required for children ages 8 and under. (20 mins)
