Event Details

In celebration of the Visual Arts Program's newest exhibition, The Art & Vision of James Hubbell: Architecture of Jubilation  now onview at the Central Library's Art Gallery through August 4, 2024 - we invite local architectural historian, Keith York's presentation: "James Hubbell and Sim Bruce Richards: Collaborations"

Join Keith York, Sim Bruce Richards’ biographer, for a discussion and presentation of the architect’s four-decade friendship with collaborator James Hubbell. Together, the duo integrated lighting, windows, railings and sculpture into Richards’ residential designs. And a large number of these same clients returned to Hubbell for additional artworks for their home. York will offer a survey of remembrances and photographs of how Hubbell, (and others) helped craft unique living environments connecting the beauty of each surrounding environment to exquisite wood, masonry and glass interiors.

Keith York is the foremost expert on mid-century modern and arts and crafts architecture in San Diego. Keith’s ModernSanDiego.com is the premier web database for information on the MCM and the arts and crafts movements. Keith also heads Agents of Architecture, a real estate firm specializing in modern, historic, and design-led properties.
