Primary tabs

Program Description

Event Details

This presentation will explore, from a historical perspective, the political and military origins of Juneteenth, America’s newest holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the day that enslaved people of African descent learned of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end to slavery on June 19, 1865. The presentation will focus on the political and military situation during the American Civil War (1861-1865), which produced the Emancipation Proclamation and eventually ended slavery in America.

The presenter, Ricardo Crespo, PhD, is a professor of political science at Grossmont College.

This San Diego Oasis event is free to attend thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library.
