Program Description

Event Details

In the 1960's, with her five year-old son, legendary African-American playwright Adrienne Kennedy moves to London to write a play based on John Lennon's writings.  She not only crosses paths with Lennon himself, but the rest of the Fab Four, Laurence Olivier, drama critic Kenneth Tynan, James Earl Jones, and more.  Kennedy is at one and the same time star-struck and yet ultimately undermined by the patriarchal power structure in which she finds herself immersed.

"Mom, How Did You Meet the Beatles?" captures Ms. Kennedy recounting her experience to her grown-up son, Adam, with whom she wrote the play.

Starring Dr. Maridian G. Broadus as Adrienne and directed by the La Jolla Theatre Ensemble's Artistic Director, John Tessmer.
