Event Details
Linda Canada has drawn upon local archives and private photograph collections to create a program that she hopes will surprise you, and maybe even astound you! There are so many little details of the San Diego region’s history wrapped up in street signs, maps, and photographs that may cause you to take a second look at the places you think you know, and to create a desire to know more about the area’s hidden, and not so hidden, past!
Linda Canada holds an undergraduate degree in History from UCLA and a law degree from Loyola University in Los Angeles. More than 20 years after leaving her legal practice she still considers herself a “recovering lawyer” and since then has worked exclusively in the field of local history.
Linda recently retired after serving 12 years as the archivist for the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego, where she interacted with hundreds of people who lived in internment camps. She is also a local historian who has diverse interests in the people, places, and architecture of San Diego and Imperial Counties. She is well known locally as a speaker at schools, organizations, and local history events. She is also a past president of the Friends of the University Community Library.
This San Diego Oasis presentation is offered free to the public thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library.
