Program Description

Event Details

Author, Wanjiru Warama, will discuss her first book, a memoir, Unexpected America. Warama was born and raised in British colonial Kenya, where she lived with her many siblings and illiterate farm-worker parents. Her father allowed her to attend the local school for the first time at the age of ten.  From her first day in San Diego, she realized she had to learn to live all over again in a new culture she knew nothing about.  Sponsored by the San Carlos Friends of the Library.
