Event Details

Young artists constantly face obstacles as they develop their skills. Parents, mentors, and peers express skepticism, wondering what the backup plan is. Our whole lives, we face the question, "How can you make a living as an artist?"

As a young artist myself, I created this project to help answer that question.

This workshop is one of a series designed to help prospective artists understand what it means to make a living as an artist; what to know about freelancing, whether art school is worth it, how to cultivate a network, and more, as well as expanding their artistic skillset.

Each 2-3 hour workshop has two components.

Part one is art! Each workshop will introduce a art activity or craft like block printing or collage, and you will have the opportunity to sell the result at an art market in March or April (date to be determined).

Part two is what you came here for.  How do you make a living as an Artist?

In preparation for this workshop series, I have interviewed various artists on their experiences, and learned a whole lot. So at each workshop, I will do a presentation that is a compilation of the careers and advice of all of these artists. In some cases, a guest artist will join us at the workshop to share their own story and answer your questions.

The series of workshops will continue through the end of March, culminating in a public art market event. If you are interested in participating in the market, I encourage you to sign up for multiple workshops in order to build a collection of work to sell at the market.
