Program Description

Event Details

Go on a field trip to the exclusive La Jolla Map & Atlas Museum! Meet Youth Librarian Ms. Katia at the La Jolla Map Museum for a special overview of the history of mapmaking and see a map from 1493 that shows the first European exploration in the New World, done to illustrate a report on Columbus’ first voyage. We will also see maps that depicted California as an island, look at an original map by Ben Franklin, maps of the thirteen original colonies, and behold pictorial (cartoon) maps. Significant explorers will be mentioned along the way.

We will wrap it all up with a scavenger hunt and souvenirs to take home. Grades 2nd-5th. (Caregivers are required to remain with their children.)

Limit 20.  Register below. The La Jolla Map & Atlas Museum is located at 7825 Fay Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037. https://www.lajollamapmuseum.org/
