Program Description

Event Details

Join the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists for this special conversation with Jason Leopold, senior investigative reporter at BuzzFeed News. Leopold, based in Los Angeles, is a legend at prying loose federal records. He filed more lawsuits under the Freedom of Information Act than any news organization or journalist except the New York Times from 2001 to 2016. The Newseum Institute inducted him into the National Freedom of Information Hall of Fame  in 2016. He was on a team that won the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ Freedom of Information Award in 2017 for explosive reporting on Russia's long-term assassination campaign in Great Britain. Leopold, who worked at Vice News for two years before joining BuzzFeed in 2016, will offer observations on the Trump administration, strategies to embrace and avoid, when to hire a lawyer, team approaches to tackling ambitious projects, and whatever else you would like him to address.
