Program Description

Event Details

The La Jolla-Riford Library is proud to offer a two-week speech and debate seminar, designed for complete beginners. Through a lecture format and hands-on learning, members of local high school speech and debate teams will prepare students for practice rounds, culminating in showcases at the end of each week. The first week will focus on SPAR debate (SPontaneous ARgumentation), a fast and fun activity featuring on-the-spot thinking skills. The second week will feature impromptu speaking, a limited-preparation event where students speak on a topic for five minutes, and congressional debate, in which senators weigh the merits of a bill. The second week will end with a session of congress open to the public!

Schedule: July 31-Aug. 4 & Aug. 7-11, 9:30-11:30am, seminar room. Limit 20.  Registration required.
