Mosaics II: Dueling Identites

A Visual & Performing Arts Exploration of Inergenerational Patterns

Description:

To live with DUELING IDENTITIES is to be an expert in code switching. We define code switching as the toning down, hiding, adjusting, or erasing certain aspects of one’s personal identity in order to become accepted in different social settings. Code switching is an intergenerational pattern, or a practice that we learn and pass down across generations.

When did you learn to code switch? Who taught you how? How do you feel when you consciously code switch? What happens when we don’t?

By exploring these questions, we hope to build our capacity to bring more of our whole selves to different spaces. Allowing ourselves to be our whole selves inspires confidence and creates a dynamic environment where others, too, may feel encouraged to be their unique and authentic selves.
