Program Description

Event Details

Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting imagines a meeting between Brooklyn Dodgers’ owner Branch Rickey, Jackie Robinson, prizefighter Joe Louis, dancer Bill “Mr. Bojangles” Robinson, and singer-actor and activist Paul Robeson, as Rickey tries to ensure that these African-American leaders and their communities will be solidly behind the Dodgers’ promotion of Jackie Robinson from the Dodgers’ Montreal minor league team to the Major Leagues. Why wouldn’t they be 100% behind this “breaking of the color barrier” in baseball? Come witness this turning point in American history and find out!

Presented by the La Jolla Theatre Ensemble in honor of African-American History Month.
