Here we discuss the best true crime books. While the stories can be gruesome and the characters repulsive, the stories entertain and often promote considerations of sociological and psychological perspectives. We will discuss the narratives and the storytelling. We meet via Zoom on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. This month's selection is "We Were Once a Family". We follow the author as she runs up against the intransigence of a state agency that removes tens of thousands of kids from homes each year in the name of child welfare, while often failing to consider alternatives. Her reporting uncovers persistent racial biases and corruption as children of color are separated from birth parents without proper cause. Ample copies are available at SDPL. Keep in mind SDCL and Link+. Reach out to me if you need help procuring a copy.
