Event Details

Discuss this year’s Newbery Award winner, “The Last Cuentista” by Donna Barba Higuera. This book is about a girl named Petra Peña who flees Earth when it is under threat of annihilation.  She and the other passengers sleep during the hundreds-year journey to a new planet.  When Petra awakes, she discovers her memory is in tact when others’ memories are not.  The protagonist strives to share stories of the past to help the surviving humans move forward. Grades 5+.
