The Athenia Story with Tom Sanger - Author of Without Warning

Few people today have heard of the ship named Athenia or know of her historical significance. She was the first ship sunk in World War II by a German submarine in the long-running Battle of the Atlantic. It happened only hours after England entered the war against Germany, September 3, 1939. In an engaging multi-media talk, Tom Sanger – whose grandmother was a passenger on the ship – explores what went wrong for Athenia, why her story is little-known today, and the surprising circumstances that brought the story’s key opponents together again, 20 months later. Books will be available for purchase.
