Of all U.S. Presidents, Thomas Jefferson remains our greatest enigma. How could the man who penned the words, “all men are created equal” own slaves? While doubting whether the Constitution allowed him to do it, he authorized the Louisiana Purchase. Blaine Davies explores the life and many contradictions of the scientist, architect, farmer, astronomer, scholar and statesman who authored the Declaration of Independence and served as our third President. The lecture includes highlights of Blaine’s visit to Jefferson’s Monticello.
