Program Description

Event Details

Having suffered under the monarchy, the founding fathers of the United States wanted to be sure there were mechanisms in the Constitution that would allow for the removal of a malfunctioning governmental official. Article 2, Section 4 does just that. This has been invoked 62 times since 1879, but only two president have been indicted to date. Current concerns about the sitting president have raised the issue today for public scrutiny. We will look at the history of impeachment, the constitutional authority, the various historical outcomes, and the relevance of the 25th Constitutional Amendment.
