50 Years of Pride

Materials from San Diego Public Library’s Special Collections and the Lambda Archives of San Diego

June 1– June 30, 2024

The Marilyn & Gene Marx Special Collections Center is a section of the San Diego Public Library housed on the 9th floor of the Central Library. The Center houses SDPL's rare books, manuscripts, papers, and other items that are of unique value and importance and is comprised of three distinct collections: The California Collection, encompassing materials relating primarily to Southern California; The Wangenheim Rare Book Collection, with items illustrating the development of the book; and the Genealogy Collection, containing books, periodicals, and research databases. For more information, visit the Special Collections website HERE.

Through a grant from The California Institute for Contemporary Arts, The Lambda Archives, San Diego Public Library, and San Diego Pride, were able to digitize over 60,000 photos, including those of the San Diego Pride Parade! The SDPL Special Collections Department has put together this exhibition of photos in celebration of 50 years of Pride and making history in San Diego.
